What did we Think? KidCoder/TeenCoder Self Study Computer Science Programs For Kids and Teens
Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
Do you have a kid in 4th grade or above that is really interested in computer science or video games? If your kid is like mine then they live and breath the fantasy of becoming a famous video game designer. My son has been talking of becoming a video game designer as early as 1st grade. He has never strayed from that desire. Normally when you ask a kid what they want to do when they grow up you might hear a handful of job titles and over the years those job titles will change. With my son it has always been video game designer or movie producer.
I have been looking for a class for video game design that my son could go to locally but haven’t found anything for his age group. I just happened upon KidCoder/TeenCoder one day and it looked like something my son would get on board with. Iimagine my surprise when a couple days later I got notice I got an opportunity to review them!
KidCoder/TeenCoder offers online instruction in beginning and intermediate web design, game programming and programming for kids and teens. The programs were created and written with the homeschooling student in mind. All lessons are self study, engaging and age appropriate.
Windows programing was not too difficult for my son to do and even I understood the lessons. The designers of this software are home schooling parents who are also professional software engineers. They know what they are doing and it shows in the craftsmanship of this software. It is easy to use for parents and not too complicated for the kiddos to understand but at the same time still feel challenged.
No experience required. None, nothing at all! Your child could have never touched a computer and would still be able to use this and have success. They will require a computer, either yours or their own but one is needed. KidCoder does offer these programs for Apple users so if you are a Linux user you can get it in the operating system you need.
- KidCoder Windows Programming is for kids in 4th through 8thth grade
