We always wait to carve our pumpkins until closer to Halloween both in part because we always forget but also because our family is multi cultural and our Halloween holiday runs into November for the Mexican holiday Dia de Muertos or in English Day of the Dead. Dia de Muertos is nothing like the American holiday Halloween but in my opinion for many kids living in America, it helps to kind of associate the two when living in a multi cultural home.
