The Curse of the Locks – Our Story of Celebrating Natural Curls
When I was a little girl I had the most amazing curls ever. Everyone was so proud of them, and my mom loved to brag about how beautiful her little girl was. Then one day I got gum in my hair, and my mom did a foolish thing. She cut it all off, and that was the last of my curls. I had wavy hair bit that was it. Nothing was ever the same again. Fast forward a decade and a half and my beautiful baby girl was born full of beautiful locks, and I was determined that the curse of the locks would not continue with my gorgeous baby. Grandmother was forbidden to be around us with a pair of scissors for a long time, and once my Mahaylah was able to stay the night with her she was forbidden to cut her hair without my permission!
One day when Mahaylah was about 6 or 7 years old she locked herself in the bathroom with her kitten with a pair of SCISSORS. Oh no! I thought I was going to have a heart attack when she unlocked the door, and out came the cat with the tips of its ears trimmed off, and yes they were bleeding. She also gave herself an interesting bob cut with half her head long, and the other half cut to her ears. I was so worried that the curse of the locks had continued. We were lucky because her curls came back, she lost the little ringlets she had previously had, but the majority of her curls came back with force.
She’s had a rough time loving her curls. She loved them up until middle school, and then started straightening her hair because she said she could not stand her curls. I could never understand why, and nothing I did helped her gain confidence that her curls were beautiful. It was not until high school that her curls became popular again, and she started wearing her natural curls with pride. We have all heard the saying we want what we don’t have. A lot of her friends have been envious of her curls, and it wasn’t until recently that she realized how lucky she really is to have such beautiful hair.
Dove Hair Introduces #LoveYourCurls Emoji Keyboard
Dove Hair’s Love Your Curls emoji keyboard is allowing you and me to express ourselves in a more authentic manner online. The Emoji keyboard allows you to express your love of your curls using little emoji’s with curly haired dolls to showcase your personality. Did you know that 74% . Straight hair seems to be the majority rule for the old emoji keyboard, showcasing only straight haired icons, and no way for people of different hair texture to express themselves. Dove Hair is introducing the Dove Love Your Curls Emojis – the first emoji keyboard designed to represent curly girls everywhere. Dove Hair will also be partnering with Twitter so each time women and girls share a #LoveYourCurls moment, a custom Dove Curly Emoji will appear in the tweet.
