So Old Spice has released another video. I am sure you know the lyrics of the previous videos but they go something like “old spice made a man out of my boy” or something along those words. In those videos the mom is always pathetically crying over her son in disbelief that he is growing up.  In the new video the dads are sticking up for their sons, in a way as the mom argues that he is just a boy.

I think the message to take away is – that a boy’s way through puberty, and gaining the “man-badge” is to first get through, well mom. Boys must endure mom losing her cool a little bit while she comes to the realization that the last 16-17 years have led up to this point. It is time to let go. As a parent and as a mom, I can attest to that. It is a sad time indeed. The beginning of letting our little boys grow up and become men. To leave our home, and go out on their own. Venture through college, get a job, and hopefully a wife some day. This is a time I am not looking forward to. My little boy is, well, my “little” boy and I do not want him to grow up but I also know it is part of life and it will happen. And of course my little boy’s father is all for him growing up. My son shows his manhood through the scent of Old Spice by dowsing himself in it before school each day. I am thankful that the brand kept this in mind when creating the product, so that even though my son does over do it on the scent it is not so strong that i cannot breathe 😉
