Frugal Money Saving Tips – Sell Old DVD Collections to Make Quick Cash

This weeks Frugal Money Saving Tip is brought to you by Music Magpie to help you rid yourself of unwanted DVD’s. Music Magpie is an online marketplace to sell your unwanted DVD’s, CD’s, Games, and Blu-Rays.

To get an idea of how this works I searched my house for some unwanted exercise DVD’s. Here is what I discovered.

The site is not a good place to sell exercise DVD’s, but when I put in video game bar codes that’s when we hit the jackpot. As you can imagine, having an 11 year old boy in my house means we have an abundance of games that he doesn’t use because he’s onto the next game as soon as it’s released.

The site is easy to use. You click on sell up in the menu area and then this screens will appear. You then enter the barcode on the back of your DVD’, games or CD’s.

sell dvdsAfter you put in all the items you want to sell you simply press the complete order button and it walks you through checkout. As you can see below my son found 12 games he no longer wants and his total is $50.51. He’s going to take that money to Game Stop and purchase a new Xbox game.

sell gamesOur experience was pleasant and the sell back prices were higher then places we sell to locally. If you have extra games laying around we highly recommend these guys. Here are some key things to keep in mind when selling media products.

  • You need to have a barcode
  • You get more money for newer games, DVD’s and CD’s.
  • Shipping is free!
  • You can download an app onto your Android or Apple devices

Music Magpie is available to the United States, United Kingdom and Germany. The service is designed to be hassle free so your experience is expected to be a great one. I really like that the shipping is free, that’s a deal setter for me.
